Reporting to the Country Medical Director Germany, the Associate Director, Head of MSL Oncology is accountable for driving the Country Medical Affairs strategy and executing programs that support the successful development and commercialization of Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ oncology portfolio. This role includes direct leadership of the Oncology MSL team.
Success in this position requires strong leadership capabilities, a high degree of cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization. The role demands a balance between strategic vision and hands-on execution within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that all activities are conducted in full compliance with national regulatory and legal requirements, as well as Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ internal policies and healthcare compliance standards.
Essential Functions
Leadership and Development of the German Oncology MSL Team
Build and lead a high-performing MSL team by consistently applying and exemplifying Jazz’s high-performance practices.
Establish and maintain effective performance management practices, ensuring clear expectations and continuous, constructive feedback.
Provide coaching and mentorship to MSLs, fostering their professional development and career growth.
Act as a role model for Jazz’s cultural values, consistently demonstrating them in daily interactions and leadership.
Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams, including Commercial, to drive alignment and collaboration.
Execution of Medical Strategy and Scientific Excellence:
Drive the effective execution of the medical strategy and associated plans.
Maintain and continuously develop deep expertise in oncology-related clinical and scientific literature to position both yourself and the team as trusted subject matter experts.
Strategically plan and engage with national Key External Experts (KEEs) to maximize scientific exchange and collaboration.
Support data generation initiatives, including the reactive evaluation of Investigator Sponsored Trial (IST) proposals.
Uphold the highest standards of pharmacovigilance, compliance, and adherence to SOPs.
Ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality medical information to both internal stakeholders and external customers.
Strategic Cross-Functional Collaboration and Insight Integration:
Ensure delivery of the German Oncology Medical Affairs field strategy and plan in close collaboration with business partners and aligned to the EU/INT strategy
Ensure the transfer of field insights into the appropriate levels of the company and contribute to the development of the German Oncology Medical Affairs strategy and plan in close collaboration with business partners and aligned to the EU/INT strategy
Foster cross-functional collaboration to embed a Key Account Management mindset across the MSL team, ensuring strategic alignment with broader organizational goals.
Lead coordination efforts with cross-functional partners—including Sales, Marketing, and Market Access—to ensure the MSL team delivers integrated and aligned scientific engagement.
Oversee the MSL team's contribution to Key Account strategies by ensuring the provision of relevant medical insights and scientific support tailored to customer needs.
Guide the MSL team in monitoring and interpreting scientific and clinical developments within key accounts to proactively identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
Ensure MSL participation in cross-functional account planning, facilitating alignment on objectives, sharing of medical insights, and coordination of field activities.
Set departmental SMART objectives and track, measure, course correct when needed and report progress of plans and budgets
Ensure the business needs are effectively communicated to partners in the EU/INT regional office, so that there is alignment on strategy and plans at all levels
Positioning Jazz as a Trusted Scientific Partner in Oncology:
Foster strong partnerships with KEEs by delivering balanced, evidence-based scientific information, ensuring decision-makers are equipped to appropriately position Jazz’s portfolio within treatment guidelines and protocols.
Participate in relevant scientific congresses to remain current with medical advancements and to actively support national KEE engagement.
Contribute to establishing Jazz EU/INT as a recognized scientific leader in hematology/oncology by empowering the MSL team to deliver high-quality scientific and clinical insights that foster KEE advocacy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry
Proven leadership experience as a line manager
Prior experience in hematology/oncology is highly desirable
In-depth understanding of the German healthcare landscape
Strong leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to influence across all organizational levels
Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative and team-oriented mindset
Ability to critically evaluate and interpret complex scientific data
Outstanding communication and presentation skills
Proven ability to build strategic partnerships with academic institutions and patient advocacy groups
Proactive, flexible, and self-directed working style
Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership, innovation, and agility in navigating a dynamic environment

Willingness to travel frequently as required
Fluency in both spoken and written German and English
Required/Preferred Education and Licenses
Advanced scientific degree in life sciences (e.g., MD, PharmD, MSc, PhD) required
Travel Requirements for this role: 60% to 70%
