Reporting to the General Manager (GM) Germany, the Country Medical Director Germany is responsible for the development and execution of the German medical affairs strategy and programs that support the successful commercialization of current and future Jazz Pharmaceuticals products. As a strategic partner to the GM, the incumbent will lead the German Medical Affairs department and serve as the primary medical representative to internal stakeholders and external audiences. The Country Medical Director will be a key member of the German core leadership team and contribute to regional and global medical initiatives, ensuring alignment with Jazz’s values and enterprise goals.

Essential Functions:
Building and Leading a High-Impact Medical Affairs Function:
Lead, develop, manage and build a high-performing, fully integrated Medical Affairs department by consistently applying and exemplifying Jazz’s high-performance practices.
Provide coaching and mentorship to the Medical Affairs personnel (direct and indirect reports), fostering their professional development and career growth.
Establish and maintain effective performance management practices, ensuring clear expectations and continuous, constructive feedback.
Act as a role model for Jazz’s cultural values and ethical standards, consistently demonstrating them in daily interactions and leadership.
Ensure the “voice of the patient” is central to departmental strategy and decision-making
Maintain full accountability for legal and regulatory compliance in all local Medical Affairs activities
Establish credibility as a trusted medical expert among internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate closely with Commercial teams to ensure strategic alignment and scientific support for business objectives
Foster close collaboration with Market Access and Corporate/Governmental Affairs to support scientific input into local pricing and reimbursement (P&R) processes
Co-lead the development and oversight of the Launch Center of Excellence
Make high-impact medical and strategic decisions with broad organizational implications
Represent the affiliate perspective in Regional Medical Affairs Forums (such as EIMALT), ensuring the needs of the German team are understood and addressed.
Strategic Leadership in Country Medical Affairs Planning and Execution:
Ensure development and delivery of the Medical Affairs strategy and country plans in alignment with business and regional objectives
Collaborate closely with business partners, BU Heads, Commercial teams, and the General Manager to ensure strategic integration
Set and monitor SMART departmental objectives; track, measure, course correct when needed and report progress of plans and budgets
Manage Medical resource allocation and budget planning in line with strategic priorities
Communicate country-specific needs effectively to regional partners to ensure alignment across all levels
Provide timely, practical scientific data and publications to support commercial strategy and improve patient outcomes
Demonstrate the value of the portfolio through impactful data generation and dissemination
Contribute high-quality input to global and regional therapeutic area evidence generation plans
Address local evidence gaps through country-specific studies to support accelerated access and integration of new therapies
Build companion data generation strategies to enhance real-world evidence and medical education
Define and support execution of early/expanded access programs and Managed Access Programs
Allocate adequate Medical team capacity to support ongoing R&D programs
Given the structure of the organization, the Country Medical Director may be expected to actively contribute to some operational medical activities, ensuring strategic goals are translated into impactful, hands-on execution across key initiatives
Driving Strategic Oncology Medical Affairs and Field Excellence in Germany:
Ensure transfer of field insights into appropriate levels of the organization to inform the German Oncology Medical Affairs strategy
Contribute to the development of the German Oncology Medical Affairs plan in close collaboration with business partners and aligned with EU/INT strategy
Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with academic institutions and key external clinical and research experts (KEEs)
Oversee Medical Advisory Boards with national and international KEEs, ensuring strategic engagement and scientific exchange
Foster cross-functional collaboration to embed a Key Account Excellence mindset across the MSL team and ensure MSL contributions to Key Account strategies, ensuring tailored medical insights and scientific support
Lead coordination with Sales, Marketing, and Market Access to ensure integrated and aligned scientific engagement
Ensure MSL participation in cross-functional account planning to align objectives, share insights, and coordinate field activities
Positioning Jazz as a Trusted Scientific Partner in Germany:
Develop and maintain influential relationships with national KEEs and academic experts
Support Jazz’s positioning as a scientific authority in oncology, haematology, and neurosciences through impactful medical engagement
Co-represent Jazz’s scientific voice alongside the General Manager
Act ethically and professionally in accordance with Jazz values and codes of practice
Ensure full compliance with applicable German laws, including AMG and HWG, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ Code of Conduct
Maintain strict adherence to Jazz Pharmacovigilance Policy
Foster strong partnerships with KEEs by delivering balanced, evidence-based scientific information, ensuring decision-makers are equipped to appropriately position Jazz’s portfolio within treatment guidelines and protocols.
Participate in relevant scientific congresses to remain current with medical advancements and to actively support national KEE engagement.
Contribute to establishing Jazz EU/INT as a recognized scientific leader in hematology/oncology and neuroscience by empowering the MSL team to deliver high-quality scientific and clinical insights that foster KEE advocacy.
Collaborate closely with Jazz R&D Team to ensure successful execution of our R&D Clinical Development program and elevate R&D research footprint in Germany
Oversees country and site selection for Jazz-sponsored studies in Germany, in accordance with Jazz global Clinical Research & Development (CRD) processes and CRO-affiliate partnership frameworks.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry
At least 7 years of proven leadership experience as a line manager
Strong expertise in Haematology/Oncology, Neuroscience, Rare Diseases, or Specialty Care Pharma
Proven track record of building and leading high-performing Medical Affairs teams
Experience launching new products, including market shaping and launch readiness activities
Deep understanding of the German healthcare system; knowledge of local regulations is a distinct advantage
Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence across all levels internally and externally
Excellent communication skills, including clear, confident presentation skills for internal and external audiences
Flexible, independent, proactive, and hands-on working style
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex scientific and clinical data
Excellent planning, organizational, and reporting skills, including budget tracking and audit readiness
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; effective team player
High ethical standards and professional conduct aligned with company values
Proficiency in relevant digital tools and business reporting systems

Required/Preferred Education and Licenses
Experience in haematology/oncology & Neuroscience is a distinct advantage and in rare diseases is desirable
