Brief Description:
Reporting to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Global Privacy Officer is senior member of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy department who will play a critical role in advancing the company’s strategy and commitment to compliance, ethics, and privacy by developing, implementing, and continuously enhancing our global privacy program aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The Global Privacy Officer leads a team of privacy professionals and works with other members of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy department, members of the Finance, IT, ERM, HR, and Legal departments and other stakeholders across the company, as well as external advisors as needed, to support the company’s overall objectives.
The Global Privacy Officer has a broad-based knowledge of the privacy laws and regulations governing pharmaceutical company activities in the US, U.K., EU and other jurisdictions in which the company conducts its business, including but not limited to HIPAA, various US state privacy laws that may be applicable to the company’s activities, and GDPR. The Global Privacy Officer should have extensive expertise designing and implementing a comprehensive global privacy program, capable of supporting the activities of a pharmaceutical company with an active research and development function, and should be capable of identifying privacy risks and designing effective mitigation strategies to manage those risks in key areas like clinical trials / clinical research, patient advocacy, and interactions with health care providers and government officials. The Global Privacy Officer should also be capable of advising a global HR function on the privacy considerations associated with managing a global workforce and should be familiar with managing and mitigating privacy incident responses. The person in this role works autonomously but must also have the ability to work collaboratively across a range of functions and departments. The Global Privacy Officer is confident and proactive in his/her approach with a strong commitment to ethical decision-making.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Leads a team of privacy professionals to support the strategic objectives of the organization and its commitment to compliance, ethics, and privacy by:
Developing, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices;
Serving as a key point of contact for privacy authorities in the US, UK, and EU, as necessary; and
Reliably and proactively identifying privacy risk and designing effective mitigation strategies, as needed.
Oversee data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), privacy risk assessments, and third-party vendor evaluations to manage privacy risk; design mitigation strategies as necessary;
In partnership with the Senior Compliance Officer, Global Monitoring, Auditing, and Third-Party Risk Management, collect and analyze data to detect emerging risk areas, deficient controls, or non-compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. Prepare detailed reports and/or dashboards for the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy team, as well as key stakeholders, including Jazz Commercial, R&D and other leaders to provide privacy risk information and assessment of the adequacy of compliance controls;
In partnership with the Senior Compliance Officer, Global Policies, Education, and Investigations, draft global privacy policies, design and deliver global privacy training programs for employees, contractors, and partners, and lead investigations and responses to data breaches and privacy incidents, including regulatory reporting and remediation, as needed;
Promote a privacy-first culture through ongoing education and engagement;
Manage processes for handling data subject access requests (DSARs), consent management, and individual rights under GDPR and other laws;
Lead cross-functional efforts to ensure compliance across R&D, clinical trials, marketing, HR, and digital platforms
Serves as a key member of the Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy lead team, coordinating with other lead team members to advance the department’s goals and objectives and to drive consistency in the approach to compliance and ethics across the company;
Stays informed on new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company and ensures that those new developments are appropriately reflected in the global privacy program;
Willingly assists Ethics, Compliance, and Privacy Department colleagues with projects and activities in areas outside of his/her primary areas of responsibility as needed to achieve corporate objectives, contribute to a collegial atmosphere and balance workloads.
Requirements of this position include:
10-12 years of relevant pharmaceutical privacy experience in-house, with specific expertise in managing a global privacy program for a multinational organization;
Law degree preferred, but not required;
Deep understanding of global privacy regulations and their practical application;
Experience managing privacy incidents and/or data breach;
Solid judgment and business acumen and understanding of business operations, particularly in multinational pharmaceutical organizations
Solid understanding of privacy laws and regulations governing the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry both in the US and internationally, including patient and employee data requirements;
Experience working in a business environment across multiple functions and geographies, with high level of responsiveness and with a strong customer service orientation;
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, enthusiastic, self-motivated, efficient, able to handle heavy workload; team player, who enjoys working in and supporting a collaborative environment
Able to work accurately with an appropriate sense of urgency and function effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, flexibility and collaboration and the ability to interface effectively throughout all levels of the organization as well as with external parties, and adaptable to circumstances and variety of cultures;
Effective manager, capable of driving enthusiasm, creativity, collaboration, and a positive work environment for his/her team

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the full and complete base pay range is: $240,000.00 - $360,000.00
Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis.
At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz's Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
